Special Olympic World Games
SO World games happen every two years, alternating between Summer Games and Winter games.
Special Olympics Canada National Games
The SOC National games occur the year before the SO World games will take place, and are the qualifer for those games
Special Olympic Ontario Provincial Games
The SOO Provincial Summer Games take place the year before, and are the qualifiers for the SOC National Summer Games.
The SOO Provincial Spring Games take place two years before, and are the qualifiers for the SOC National Summer Games. Athletes who compete in the Provincial Spring games will not know if they have qualified for Nationals untill after the Provincial Summer games are over.
The SOO Provincial Winter Games take place the year before, and are the qualifiers for the SOC National Winter Games.

The year before a sport's Provincial games there are regional competitions for qualification.

2020 SOO Spring Games, Postponed to 2024
The 2020 games that were postponed because of COVID were hosted in the Waterloo Region May 23-26, 2024. Oakville has 21 athletes and 5 coaches who attended these games.
2024 SOC Winter Games
The Canadian National Winter Games were held in Calgary, February 27 to March 2 2024. Oakville had four 5 Pin Bowling athletes, and one Snowshoe athlete, competing at these games. In addition there were six Oakville athletes who were competing on the Milton Floor Hockey team.
2019 SO World Summer Games
The Special Olympic World Summer games were held March 14 21 in Abu Dhabai. Oakville has six athletes competing in these games in three sports. To follow our Canadian athletes on the Games website see the SO Canada page.
2019 SOO Provincial Winter Games
Six Oakville Athletes Participated in these games, held in Sault Ste. Marie, Jan 31 to Feb3, 2019
2018 SOC National Summer Games
Five Oakville athletes competed in the National Bowling Championships held in Prince Edward Island from May 13-17, 2018.
The Special Olympic Canada Summer Games were held in Nova Scotia from July 31 to August 4, 2018. There are 16 Oakville athletes competing at these games.
2016 SOC Winter Games
The National Winter Games took place in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Feb 29 - Mar 6, 2016.
2015 SOO Winter Games
The 2015 SO Ontario Provincial Games were held in North Bay, January 29 to February 1, 2015.
2015 SO World Summer Games
The World games ran from July 25 to August 2, 2015, in Los Angeles, California. Oakville sent two athletes and one coach to these games.
2011 SO World Summer Games
The 2011 World Summer Games were held in Athens Greece. Out of the five Rhythmic Gymnasts that Canada sent to these games, four were from Oakville.
2007 SO World Summer Games
The 2007 World Summer Games were held in in Shanghai China. Two athletes from Oakville teams were there competing in 10-Pin Bowling, and in Rhythmic Gymnastics!
2006 SOC National Summer Games
The 2006 National Summer Games were held in Brandon Manitoba, July 18-23. We had athletes competing in 5 and 10 Bowling, Rhythmic Gymnastics, and in Soccer.
2005 SOO Provincial Summer Games
The 2005 Provincial Summer Games were held in the Niagara Region, July 28 - 31. Oakville sent Rhythmic Gymnastics athletes, a Soccer team.
2004 SOO Provincial Spring Games
The 2004 Spring Provincials were held in Peterborough, June 10 to 13. Oakville athletes competed in Basketball, 5-Pin Bowling, and in Swimming.
2002 SOC National Summer Games
Games were held Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Team Ontario included Oakville athletes competing in: 5-Pin Bowing, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Soccer, and Swimming

Summer and Winter Sports

For the purposes of the major games the Special Olympic Sports are divided between Summer and Winter Sports. Note not all of the following sports are offered in every community.

In the province of Ontario for the Provincial Games some of the above sports are classed as Spring Sports. This classification is subject to change with each cycle.
